Volunteers wanted - help make a dream come true

Caudwell

Caudwell Children charity is calling for people to help make the dreams come true for a group of children with life-limiting illnesses, by volunteering to support families on a trip to DisneyWorld in the USA.

The charity will be taking up to 25 children and their families to the Florida theme parks for seven days in November as part of their annual Destination Dreams campaign, and are looking for volunteers to support families during the trip.

Key Facts

  • Volunteers do not need any professional childcare experience
  • For more information or to register your interest, please contact Sophie Street, Volunteers Manager, on 01782 600443 or email volunteering@caudwellchildren.com
  • A total of 180 people will travel to Florida including a team of paramedics and peadiatric doctors
  • The trip will take place from November 3rd to November 12th, all successful volunteers will also be required to attend a training weekend.
  • Volunteers are needed to offer practical support for families travelling to Florida
The carefully planned trip is specifically designed for children with a high medical dependency, which often makes any travel impossible. A team of charity staff, paramedics and doctors will join the successful volunteers to assist families to ensure they have a respite from the stresses of constant care, create some happy memories and potentially aid the children’s health.

The volunteers will be required to assist families around the parks, help support siblings, distribute information to families and act as the face of the Charity throughout the trip. Individuals will not be required to carry out personal care for the children and no medical training is required.

Quotes

“Due to the Amy’s medical needs, our family is often separated as my husband looks after Amy’s brothers and sister while I look after Amy, but because of the friendly and caring volunteers who joined the trip, we were able to really enjoy time together as a family. It was a week none of us will ever forget.”

Jayne Hughes travelled to Florida with her daughter Amy (18), who has Cockayne Syndrome

“The Destination Dreams programme offers volunteers a unique experience and an opportunity to really make a difference to the lives of a family faced with the trauma of their child’s serious illness. Each year we offer the chance for new people to join us and experience the magic these families go through during the week-long trip.”

Trudi Beswick, Chief Executive Officer for Caudwell Children

“Until last November I had always supported charities from a distance, by donating money and forgetting all about it. Travelling to Florida and really getting to know families caring for sick or disabled children was an experience that will change me forever. It was a delight to see the children relax and have a good time, I feel honoured to have been a part of something so special.”
