The volunteers will be required to spare just two hours a week to befriend and mentor children living within the City. The Charity will provide a series of fun leisure activities as part of the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme including bowling, art and music sessions or cinema trips.
As an added incentive, volunteers who come forward for the scheme will also be enrolled on a mentoring and coaching course run by Staffordshire University, which starts in September.
Quotes
There are several social barriers that prevent disabled children from accessing simple leisure activities such as trips to the cinema or the park. We hope to overcome these barriers by providing young people with an experienced volunteer who has experience of living with a disability. This is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiastic volunteers to really make a difference to the lives of disabled children. By sharing some of their experiences they can give local children the confidence and support needed to enjoy leisure activities and make new friends.
