Victoria to face volcanic challenge for charity

Caudwell

Active volcanoes, boiling mud pools and spouting geysers are just a few of the perils fundraiser, Victoria Senter (28), is set to face on an Icelandic charity trek later this week.

On Wednesday 21st July Victoria, from Fenton in Staffordshire, will jet off to the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik before heading to the barren lava fields of the Southern Highlands where she will embark on a 5 day trek along the Landmannalaugar route.

Key Facts

  • 5 day trek across the lava fields and snowcapped mountains of Iceland
  • Raising money for sick and disabled children
  • Camping in the wilderness with only 2 hours of darkness
  • Trek leaves on Wednesday 25th July 2010

She is completing the gruelling challenge to raise funds for Stoke-based charity, Caudwell Children, who have helped thusands of sick and disabled children across the UK with donations of specialist equipment, life-saving treatments and therapies.

As well as steep climbs on rough ground and trekking across snowfields, Victoria will also have to cope with sleep deprivation as the midnight sun means walkers only have 2 hours of darkness each night.

Quotes

With only a couple of days until I go I am a bit nervous and apprehensive about the challenge ahead. I have always wanted to visit Iceland and saw this as a perfect way to raise money for a brilliant local cause but the recent volcanic eruption really highlighted just how dangerous the trip could be.

Victoria Senter, Charity Fundraiser

I’m very proud of our fundraisers and extremely grateful for the hundreds of people who complete challenges like this every year for the Charity. The money they raise helps change the lives of sick and disabled children, so whether it is trekking over active volcanoes or any other type of challenge, they should be very proud of themselves.
