Speedy Cody’s world set alight with £8,500 life changing donation

Caudwell

A disabled toddler from Chester has been given a state-of-the-art powered wheelchair worth over £8,500 to help him keep up to speed.

Inspired by his love of anything to do with fire engines, four year old Cody Mannion has received a racing red Permobil Koala Miniflex Powered Wheelchair which allows him to keep up with his best friend and brother, Ronnan (5).

The high-tech chair allows Cody, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), to adjust his height, meaning he can independently reach house utilities, wash his hands and reach things which are usually above his normal chair level.

Stacey applied to the Charity after speaking to other parents of children with SMA, a degenerative neuromuscular disease, which results in the weakness of muscles. Cody recently met children with the same condition at a conference for children with SMA and was able to sport his new chair proudly.

About Caudwell Children:
To date Caudwell Children has donated over £12 million to thousands of children with 300 medical conditions. The Charity is committed to changing the lives of children by providing individual donations of specialist equipment, treatment and therapy as well as its annual ‘Destination Dreams’ holiday for families coping with a child’s terminal illness.
Caudwell Children was registered in March 2000 and is widely recognised as one of the country’s fastest growing children’s charities. Since its inception the charity has doubled every pound raised, achieved through supplier partnerships, which means every pound donated works even harder.
The Charity was founded by entrepreneur, John Caudwell, whose vision was to create a sustainable children’s charity that offered benefactors’ transparency and peace of mind that 100% of their donation was being used to directly change children’s lives.
By donating the cost of the Charity’s annual management and administration overheads, John has guaranteed an efficient way for individuals and businesses to change the lives of thousands of sick and disabled children living in the UK.
John Caudwell remains the Charity’s largest benefactor and sits as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The Charity’s ambassadors include Hollywood actress and author, Joan Collins, actress Elizabeth

Quotes

“This donation has changed Cody’s life. It’s such a boost for his independence and it’s so nice to see him do things for himself for the first time. It’s an amazing piece of equipment which allows him to keep up with his brother Ronnan and helps hold him straight and offers him support.”

Mum, Stacey Young.

“The conference allowed Cody to spend time with children in the same situation and he loved it. He was thrilled to be amongst other children and it was the first time he had seen other youngsters with these Koala powered wheelchairs too. They were able to get around together and enjoy themselves.”

Mum, Stacey Young

“It’s fantastic to be able to help youngsters like Cody get the equipment to help them enjoy life and achieve new things. Unfortunately vital equipment like these powered wheelchairs are often incredibly costly and out of financial reach for families. On average families caring for a child with a disability need three pieces of equipment to provide basic care and thanks to our volunteers and fundraisers we are able to help relieve families of this burden. We would urge anyone in need of help providing equipment, treatment or therapy to contact us immediately.”

Trudi Beswick, Chief Executive Officer for Caudwell Children.
