Slum dwellers in Zimbabwe claim land rights

More than 35,000 people living in a slum in Zimbabwe are about to obtain secure land rights to their settlement, according to UK charity Homeless International. As a result, the families will be able to undertake large-scale improvements to housing and local services. Above all, they will finally be recognised as legitimate citizens in their communities.

Slum charity Homeless International's year-long project to improve water and sanitation for poor communities in Malawi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe has helped over 10,000 people to access better water and toilet facilities. Many more are set to benefit over the coming year, with women in particular seeing a real boost to their livelihoods and way of life.
