Social Media Releases for Sue Ryder

Sue Ryder provides end of life and long-term care for people living with conditions including; Cancer, Stroke, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease.

Founded in 1953, the charity has a long and distinguished history of delivering care and today operates hospices, neurological care centres, homecare and community based services nationwide.

In response to a large percentage of people’s preference to be cared for at home, Sue Ryder is increasingly focusing on developing community-based services that support people to retain independence and live well in their own homes for as long as possible.

"It will never happen to me" attitude needs to take a Hike

Launch of Starlight Hike aims to show fundraising in a new light

40 per cent of Brits, if facing a serious life-changing illness would turn to charity for support, yet just eight per cent of people actually took part in a fundraising event for a health related charity last year. This is the stark finding of new research from Sue Ryder, the national charity that supports people with end of life and long-term conditions which is launching its Starlight Hike events to help people see both fundraising and some of the country’s most beautiful landmarks in a new light.

The celebrity lives of Lorraine Kelly, Olly Murs and Dermot O’ Leary may appear poles apart from a local self-employed double-glazer in Bedford. Yet when it comes to life changing experiences, as Malcolm Patrickson (44) has shown, they are not just the preserve of the celebrity.

Inspired to take on an October desert trek for Sue Ryder in memory of his friend who died recently, Malcolm watched the celebrity Red Nose desert trek (broadcast on BBC1 on 17 March) with interest.

Steve Jenkin comments on End of Life (EoLC) Strategy

The National Audit Office (Nov, 2008) and Public Accounts Committee reports (May, 2009) on end of life care both highlighted that existing palliative care services are increasingly underfunded by comissioners, and worryingly, a relience on voluntary fundraising is growing.

Sue Ryder Care is calling on the government to implement its plan for a tariff for palliative and end of life care services at the earliest opportunity. While the exact benefits of funding received remain hazy in some areas the Strategy has supported end of life care to rise up the political agenda and public consciousness of the subject.
